Dante Sclafani serves as the Compost Coordinator at the Queens County Farm Museum, where he oversees all aspects of compost operations and related educational programming. He holds a BA in Environmental Studies from Eckerd College and is a certified Master Composter. Over the past year, Dante has managed the farm’s comprehensive compost system, spearheaded innovative compost initiatives, and directed the redesign and implementation of the museum’s compost education classrooms, enhancing both sustainability practices and visitor learning experiences.
In this class we will explore the incredible world of Fungi, and their vital role as decomposers throughout history. Take home a Oyster Mushroom growing kit!
In this class we will discuss how during the holidays, particularly in the winter, there is a much larger volume of waste produced than usual, and how that can be redirected from the waste stream by engaging with community composting.
In this class we will discuss food digesters as an alternate way to keep food scraps out of the waste stream, as well as discussing different ways to compost indoors at a small-scale.
I want to be the first to hear about events, programs, discounts, and other exciting news at Queens Farm.
