The art of cheesemaking dates back thousands of years. This introductory, hands-on class will guide you through this rich history and teach you the science behind your curds and whey. Practice making two types of delicious soft cheese and leave with samples, recipes, and clear instructions to confidently make cheese in your own kitchen.

About the Instructor:
Carol Johnson is a New York City-based cook and an American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional (ACS CCP). A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, she has pursued food through the lens of nutrition, catering, education, professional kitchens, importing, and sales. Carol owns and operates Monger’s Palate in Greenpoint, where she shares her love of cheese with the NYC community.

  • Advance online tickets are required as capacity is limited.
  • This class is part of the Public Education Program at Queens Farm and is intended for adults 18 and up.
  • A team member will begin checking in guests at the front gate starting at 5:50pm, and will escort them to the Barn Kitchen upon arrival. The main gate will close at 6:10pm. Class starts promptly at 6pm.
  • Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Email confirmation will automatically be sent to you upon completion of purchase.
  • Farm members are eligible for 15% off this program. Select “I have a membership” during checkout to apply discount.
  • Free local street parking and bicycle racks available.
  • Farm grounds and restrooms are accessible.
  • Backpacks and bottled water are permitted on our grounds. No designated storage or bag check available.
  • This event takes place indoors and is not affected by weather. In the case of a severe weather emergency, ticket holders will be contacted via email, and updates will be posted on queensfarm.org and social media.

All sales are final. Tickets cannot be replaced or transferred. If event is canceled by Queens Farm for any reason, Queens Farm will administer full refunds. If inclement weather is forecasted, updates will be emailed to ticket holders, posted at queensfarm.org and shared on social media. Outdoor programming will move indoors where possible for inclement weather.

• Queens Farm is smoke-free. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the premises.
• Do not pick produce, or flowers, walk into growing fields or climb trees.
• For the health of our livestock, please do not feed animals anything except food for sale on site.
• Pets are not allowed, for the safety of the farm animals and visitors. Service animals are permitted as described by the ADA.
• Queens Farm is home to a variety of livestock including hens, steer, alpacas, sheep, goats and pigs, who live in designated coops and paddocks on the farm. Guests are required to remain outside of fenced areas at all times during their visit.
• Our 47 acres of grounds contain wooded areas, which are home to local wildlife. Do not feed or approach any animals you may encounter in their natural habitat.
• Strollers, backpacks, and bottled water are permitted on the grounds. No designated storage for strollers, bags, or coats.
• For the safety of our staff and visitors, there is no bicycling, rollerblading or electric scootering is allowed on-site. Bicycle racks are available on-site.
• Casual visitor photography is permitted, however staged photos, photo shoots and commercial photography requires a farm issued permit and payment of applicable fees.
