Queens County Farm Museum is a 47-acre landmark working farm in New York City that dates back to 1697. This site was saved from development in 1973, thus preserving a living example of Queens County’s agrarian history for generations to come. Today, our fields are more productive than ever – our farmers use organic growing methods to grow a wide variety of flowers, vegetables, and fruits for our farmer’s market. We also raise a variety of livestock, with an emphasis on heritage breeds. 

Our commitment to cultivating healthy food and beautiful space is just as important as our commitment to offering volunteer opportunities for our local community.

Queens Farm offers several volunteer options; from smaller groups to larger team building days, we have a variety of opportunities to suit your specific needs. Private volunteer opportunities are dependent on the availability of our agriculture team, and are approved based on individual requests.

To further enhance your experience, we offer private rental spaces to add on to your volunteer service day, as well as tractor-drawn hayrides and animal feeding for you and all of your guests to enjoy. Please read on for details!

Important Information:

  • We recommend that you make your volunteer request at least two (2) months in advance. Please note that our volunteer season is between April-September.
  • Any other vendors including but not limited to caterers and photographers may be used as long as they supply a Certificate of Insurance naming the Queens County Farm Museum, NYC Department of Parks and the City of New York as additionally insured.
  • Parking lot available for guest use. Additional fees may apply. 
  • The stove in the kitchen may only be used by an insured caterer. Arrangements must be made at least two weeks prior to your volunteer event.  Not Available beginning May 2025
  • Payment: A non-refundable deposit for 50% of the total volunteer service day amount is taken at the time of booking your service day (credit card, cash, or check accepted). The remaining balance must be paid at least five (5) business days prior to your service day. Any services added on the day of your event must be paid by credit card or cash on the day of service.

  • Volunteers must be 18 or older.
  • Volunteer hours are 10am–12pm. Pre-registration is required as availability for each date is limited.
  • Upon arrival, walk down the main road to the "Volunteer Check-in Station'' (in front of our Barn building). A farmer will be there from 9:50am–10:10am to greet you. Late arrivals should still plan on stopping by the barn to meet with a staff member who will escort you to the volunteer location.
  • Prepare to get dirty! Wear proper outdoor work attire (hat, sunglasses, layers, rain gear, gardening gloves, closed-toed boots/shoes, etc.). The farm will provide gloves.
  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and remember to use sun protection.
  • Bring snacks/lunch with you; there is light fare and drinks available in our farm store.
  • Tasks may be physically strenuous, and can include weeding, mulching, turning compost, or harvesting, depending on the needs of the farm that day.
  • All experience levels welcome; no experience necessary.
  • Free street parking and bike parking available. The farm is also accessible by public transit.
  • Queens Farm has public restrooms on site.
  • Volunteer tasks are rain or shine. We will notify you via email if a session will be cancelled.

  • Activities do not include hands-on work with our livestock; only field work.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to stay for the whole time slot.
  • If your plans change and you can no longer join us, please email [email protected] to cancel your registration and allow another volunteer to register in your place.
  • If you are sick, please stay home for your health and the health of others. We ask that all volunteers review our Health & Hygiene policy here and review this video detailing Farm Food Safety practices.

Volunteer Service Day

To accommodate private group requests and offer the best possible experience for the group, we charge a volunteer service day fee of $2,000 per group of thirty (30) people for two (2) hours of volunteering. If you have more than 30 people interested in volunteering there is an additional fee of $100 per person.

    Our Pavilion is an open-air structure with a roof overhead that offers scenic views of our children’s garden, growing fields, and Barn. This adaptable space is a popular location for smaller gatherings.

Serving in a volunteer position requires good judgment and management of reasonable risks. Volunteers are required to follow staff instructions at all times. Volunteers shall act honestly and ethically while in the performance of their volunteer duties. Volunteers are expected to treat all farm employees, volunteers, visitors, and other community members with respect, courtesy, and dignity, and shall not harass, bully, or mistreat any such individuals. Volunteers shall not discriminate and shall be respectful of ethnic, national, cultural and other differences. Volunteers shall obey all applicable local, state, and federal laws while acting on behalf of Queens Farm, including all laws and regulations that govern appropriate conduct in the workplace. Refrain from volunteering while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. Volunteers who do not comply with these rules are subject to removal. Queens County Farm Museum staff retain the right to refuse volunteer service at their sole discretion.
By entering an event or program at Queens County Farm Museum, you are entering an area where photography, audio and video recording may occur.

Your entry and presence on the event premises constitutes your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or otherwise recorded and to the release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction of any and all recorded media of your appearance, voice, and name for any purpose whatsoever in perpetuity in connection with the Queens County Farm Museum and its initiatives, including, by way of example only, use on websites, in social media, news and advertising.

By entering the event premises, you waive and release any claims you may have related to the use of recorded media of you at the event, including, without limitation, any right to inspect or approve the photo, video or audio recording of you, any claims for invasion of privacy, violation of the right of publicity, defamation, and copyright infringement or for any fees for use of such record media.

You understand that all photography, filming and/or recording will be done in reliance on this consent. If you do not agree to the foregoing, please do not enter the event premises.
• Queens Farm is smoke-free. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the premises.
• Do not pick produce, or flowers, walk into growing fields or climb trees.
• For the health of our livestock, please do not feed animals anything except food for sale on site.
• Pets are not allowed, for the safety of the farm animals and visitors. Service animals are permitted as described by the ADA.
• Queens Farm is home to a variety of livestock including hens, steer, alpacas, sheep, goats and pigs, who live in designated coops and paddocks on the farm. Guests are required to remain outside of fenced areas at all times during their visit.
• Our 47 acres of grounds contain wooded areas, which are home to local wildlife. Do not feed or approach any animals you may encounter in their natural habitat.
• Strollers, backpacks, and bottled water are permitted on the grounds. No designated storage for strollers, bags, or coats.
• For the safety of our staff and visitors, there is no bicycling, rollerblading or electric scootering is allowed on-site. Bicycle racks are available on-site.
• Casual visitor photography is permitted, however staged photos, photo shoots and commercial photography requires a farm issued permit and payment of applicable fees.
