Time for a haircut! Watch as our sheep get their much-needed spring trims.

Celebrate Spring on the farm at NYC’s ONLY sheep shearing festival. Farmer-led tours and sheep shearing demonstrations connect visitors to life on the farm. Learn about the cycle of wool processing, shop a selection of Queens Farm's very own yarn, and visit with fiber artisans as they showcase spinning, natural dyeing, weaving, knitting, and crochet. Groove to live music with Mojo and the Mayhem and Folk Music Society of New York, and enjoy hayrides ($6), kids crafts, and a free scavenger hunt to add to the fun! Tour the historic Adriance Farmhouse and pick up seedlings for your home garden at Queens Farm's spring plant sale. Stop by the Con Edison Ecology Booth to Adopt-a-Worm and get recycling tips. Local food vendors will keep you coming baaa-ck for more.

  • WHEN: Saturday, May 11, 2024; 11am - 4pm. Shearing demonstrations take place at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
  • WHERE: Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, NY 11004
  • TICKETS: $15 adults, $12 children (ages 3-11). Free for ages 2 and under.

Why shear? Sheep were domesticated over 10,000 years ago, and their wool grows continuously. Shearing wool is important for a sheep's long-term health, comfort, safety and overall well-being. If a sheep is not shorn, that sheep risks overheating, skin conditions and mobility issues. Just imagine what it would be like to wear a heavy wool coat all summer long! Shearing keeps sheep cool in the warmer months and reduces the risk of parasitic infestation and disease. Shearers are highly trained professionals who are adept at handling the animals; they complete the process carefully and swiftly so the sheep can get back to their flock and flaunt their new ‘do!
