Queens Farm is host to a variety of wild edible plants in our woodlands, pollinator gardens, and pathway edges. Join plant expert and author Marie Viljoen for this outdoor exploration of the farm and learn to safely identify and harvest wild, seasonal ingredients.

We'll discuss the evolving ethics of foraging, how to collect native wild plants, pollution issues, invasive versus native plants, and biodiversity all tying into Marie’s approach of conservation foraging. The walk concludes with a refreshing, wild-inspired beverage and light fare. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, and a notebook and/or camera to document your discoveries.

About the Instructor:
Marie Viljoen is a South African-born, NYC-based writer, gardener, forager, and cook. She is the author of Forage, Harvest, Feast: A Wild-Inspired Cuisine and 66 Square Feet: A Delicious Life. Viljoen teaches at the New York Botanical Garden and leads foraging walks in NYC and beyond.

  • This class is part of the Public Education Program at Queens Farm and is intended for adults 18 and up.
  • Guests should bring their water bottle, a notebook, and perhaps a camera, and wear comfortable shoes.
  • Guests should arrive no later than 5:20pm to check in. A team member will be at the front gate to welcome guests. The main gate will close at 5:40pm.
  • Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • Free local street parking and bicycle racks available.

Queens Farm is smoke-free. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the premises.
Do not pick produce, or flowers, walk into growing fields or climb trees.
For the health of our livestock, please do not feed animals anything except food for sale on site.
Pets are not allowed, for the safety of the farm animals and visitors. Service animals are permitted as described by the ADA.
Queens Farm is home to a variety of livestock including hens, steer, alpacas, sheep, goats and pigs, who live in designated coops and paddocks on the farm. Guests are required to remain outside of fenced areas at all times during their visit.
Our 47 acres of grounds contain wooded areas, which are home to local wildlife. Do not feed or approach any animals you may encounter in their natural habitat.
Strollers, backpacks, and bottled water are permitted on the grounds. No designated storage for strollers, bags, or coats.
For the safety of our staff and visitors, there is no bicycling, rollerblading or electric scootering is allowed on-site. Bicycle racks are available on-site.
Casual visitor photography is permitted, however staged photos, photo shoots and commercial photography requires a farm issued permit and payment of applicable fees.
